My weekend away from the computer

I tried my level best to stay away from the computer as much as possible last weekend. My head and neck/back are still playing up and I find that by the end of the day I am extremely weary. I come home from work and nap and then I try to catch up on blog posts. I have an appointment booked with an ENT specialist three weeks from now. I’m getting used to the crickets/cicadas in my head. They have almost become white noise now. πŸ˜‰
I have to laugh. I was sharing with a colleague (who is also a friend) yesterday about the symptoms that I have and she pointed out to me the beauty involved with constant ringing in my ears. When I told her that I have cicadas constantly singing in my head she said “You can close your eyes and imagine you are camping”! πŸ˜€ I laughed so hard at that. Yes, most definitely there is a silver lining to it all.

So what did I get up to last weekend?
I decided that I want to make a start on the Project Life way of scrapping and decided to get the first six months of photos from last year printed off (only the good ones). Since I was going to be doing that, I also had wedding photos from my oldest children’s weddings printed and a couple of other photos printed to be framed and put on top of the piano in the ‘family’ corner. I then purchased some frames (25% off thank you very much) for the larger photos to go on the wall. We purchased all of the Tween’s school books as well. Then I went to Spotlight to look for the Project Life stuff. I decided to go with just the album and inserts (thanks for the advice Giovanna). To get to the scrapbooking section, I had to pass through the fabric. The Tween and I began planning her quilt. We purchased some fat quarters as a start. The GG just groaned. πŸ˜‰

Later at home, I sat and worked out what I will need to make the Tween’s quilt (besides lots of time and patience). The Garden Gnome then asked what had ever happened with the fabric I bought for him to make his bar runner. 😳 So I found a pattern and modified it and made this for him.

ImageI have to buy another Holden patch for the other end and it will be complete. The GG has already installed it upon the bar πŸ™‚
Underneath itΒ  you can see the quilt I have been working on. ImageI have stitched the rows together now (that’s them laying under the bar runner on our sofa). The next step is to cut the ‘tracks’ and sew them on. This time I will try to get them to match up better than my last quilt did! πŸ˜‰
I have made a start on catching up on my reading also. I’ve almost finished reading the magazines laying on the floor beside my bed and then I will use them in putting my vision board together…… excuse my little segue here but speaking of my vision board…. Yesterday I came home from work and the GG handed me an envelope and said “Information on our new home came in the mail today” and handed me a brochure about the current Mater Prize Home Lottery. Burleigh is our most favourite place to stay and this has everything we could wish for. Since we are VIP ticket buyers, we already have tickets… now I’m going to claim it!!
So where was I? Oh yes, my reading.
I am halfway through one of the e-books I bought last week. I still have another to go. And a manuscript I am halfway through reading also πŸ˜‰ . And to show you just how much reading I still have to do….

ImageAnd the bag filled with Wayne Dyer books I bought in Melbourne are just outside the edge of the photo. There’s just a few there to read πŸ˜€ Wish me luck!!! It’s just as well I have the following week off work. We were hoping to get away (Burleigh looks inviting) but it is the end of the school holidays and they are booked solid. To get a place there is worth almost a week’s wages right now. 😦 I think a day trip might be in order. If we do, I’ll take photos and share πŸ™‚

Have a blessed day πŸ™‚

  1. I am so envious of your talent! I know so many who can quilt, it’s just something I could never get into, but I love the idea lol. Now the stack of books…that is more doable for me. Have a great week hon.:-)

  3. Hey Suz – I love that you stitch. I like folk who can stitch; Your ears `- wow – that must be – like Van Gogh? My mum had something like that – I think they called it tinnitus? Is that the same thing? Anyway – that is besides the point because it is probably a pain to talk about it! (bless you)
I want to stitch something now. I am too impatient and awkward with it – my fingers get in a muddle πŸ˜€
I like the combo of colours you have used in that last pic. (not the books – the books just made my head sore thinking about all that reading you want to fit in….you know you could just STOP – and NOT go on this darn thing right? We would all be here when you got back right πŸ˜‰ )
    Take care –
And if I do not see you round my blog I will be HAPPY πŸ˜› ( I will miss you – BUT – a break is good too)

    1. It’s not just the ears that are doing my head in right now Belinda, it’s the dizziness and pressure in my head. 😦
I know all will be well in the end, I just want the speed bump to reduce in size.
Thanks for your wonderful words πŸ™‚

  4. Sounds like a productive weekend. I really like the quilt. Like many things, I hide my books under the bed. That way, when they stack up I don’t stress. πŸ˜€

    1. I try not to put things under my bed any more April. It’s bad feng shui apparently – and anyway anything under my bed can be seen from the doorway. πŸ˜‰

      1. Oh my—perhaps that’s my insomnia problem! An I have a bed skirt that reaches the floor just for the purpose of hiding things under there. I think I’m going to change that today. πŸ™‚

  5. I have tinnitus, not too badly, thank goodness, but one day I was sitting in my living room in Bowraville, south of Coffs Harbour, when I suddenly started hearing birds cheaping. My right ear felt very blocked (I’m slightly deaf too) and I was suddenly very deaf in that ear. I saw my doctor in Coffs and she said often there’s nothing you can do but she prescribed mild diuretics. Worked like a charm and, although the chirping was quite nice, I’m glad not have birds in my head anymore! Just thought I’d let you know this in case it works for you too.

  6. Funny, in one of my comments earlier about your crickets I almost said a similar thing, I was going to say “imagine you’re outside on a beautiful summer day” but thought it was too corny πŸ™‚ I’m glad you got so much done over your weekend, don’t over-do it though, OK? Good luck at the ENT, too bad they can’t get you in sooner, darn it!
