You can’t!!

Whilst I was at the beach, I watched a movie as part of the Hay House World Summit entitled “The Shift” featuring Dr Wayne Dyer.
In the movie, a young mother is hiking with her husband and two young boys when she stops and looks around at the beauty of the woods and the beach below. In her mind she sees her hands moving over the page of a sketchbook and capturing the beauty that she she sees with the eyes of her soul. The calls of her young sons shake her from her reverie. When her husbands asks where she had ‘gone’ she replies by telling him how she felt and how this is something that she would love to paint.
Her oldest son replied “You can’t paint….”
The woman’s face closed down and she pushed her dreams to the side. The pain in her eyes was replaced by something unreadable.

This got me thinking about how often in our lives we have an idea that excites us only to be told (upon sharing it with someone else) “You can’t do that” or “How on earth do you think you would be able to do that”? Then we join in with our own self defeating thoughts “It’s a dream”.

My question to you is “Why can’t you do that”? Is there any logical reason that can stop you from achieving your dream? Let’s face it, the Wright Brothers would never have got their feet off the ground if they listened to the naysayers and the hecklers. And we would all still be living in the dark and reading by candle light if Thomas Edison had not persisted with his dreams. Actually, you wouldn’t be reading a book at all if it wasn’t for Johannes Gutenberg.
My point is that for every invention by someone with a vision, there was almost certainly another person who said “Don’t be stupid. You can’t do that”.
Our world is full of visionary people balanced out in equal proportions by the ‘Negative Nancys’.

So if you have a dream – you have a choice.
You can either heed the naysayers and negative nancys and remain unfulfilled or you can heed the music inside your soul and go and dance!

This video is taken from the final moments of the film and is by Ethan Lipton & Orchestra. I dare you to watch this and not let a smile touch your lips.

  1. Lots of thoughts on this! First, Wayne Dyer’s book did me a lot of good when I needed good doing, and secondly, there’s an old Seekers song called ‘Put a dream in your pocket’ – think I’ll have it at my funeral as a message to my rels! Thirdly, to hell with the naysayers!

    1. What a great message to have played at the passing of this life.
I enjoy Wayne Dyer’s books and have quite a few of them. The movie was very good and I enjoyed it.

Suzanne from It Goes On reminded me this morning: if you have a dream, you might have naysayers that claim that “you can’t”. Sometimes the naysayer is in your own head. Be sure to watch the lovely song at the end, and go catch your dreams – today is just as perfect as any day.
