J is for Jellybeans

I told you that the Tween had a hand in choosing some of my topics!
My challenge today is to talk about Jellybeans! Let’s hope I can make this work. ๐Ÿ˜€

Forrest Gump famously said that life is like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’ll get. And he would be right. However, I could add that life is even more like a box of Jelly Belly jellybeans – those suckers create a lucky dip!
Of course, you could waste time in reading the inside of the lid where it tells you what the various flavours are. Or you could just ‘wing it’ by making your choice and hoping for the best.
Placing one in your mouth, you can be instantly transported to bliss. Or you could find yourself spitting the bean out into your hand in disgust. (Actually if you’re looking for disgusting flavours go no further than Harry Potter Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans also made by Jelly Belly).

The analogy to life is there – we can have great days, great ideas, great weather, great friends…. great everything. These could be the Blueberry, Canteloupe or Cream Soda kind of days. Some days mightn’t be too bad but have a few little things that get you down (Buttered popcorn any one?). Then there are the Cinnamon, Liquorice and Sizzling Cinnamon kind of days that make you just want to spit it out and start all over again.
Of course every one is different and whilst someone may be enjoying a Green Tea day, others might be wondering just what the attraction of this really is. And whilst I might be enjoying my Lemon Drop day, others might be aiming for a Candy Floss day.

It really is a lucky dip this thing called life isn’t it? Of course it would be a lot easier if we stopped, thought and read the directions to help us make an informed decision about our lives. Learning about things is good. It helpsย  to know we need to avoid the Cappuccino and enjoy a Green Tea (if that is what will make us happy). There are many, many Jelly Belly flavours. Each is unique in it’s own way and each has a place in the box. (Just like every experience in our lives has a place also).
And don’t be fooled by the colours. Pretty colours don’t necessarily mean great taste! (I bet we know lots of pretty people who aren’t as pretty on the inside as they are on the outside).

But the great thing about life (and jellybeans) is that if we get a flavour we don’t like, we can change it!!
Tell me, what’s your favourite flavour? (For the record, I love Lemon Lime. It’s not too bitter and not too sweet).

  1. I read the first paragraph, and before scrolling down, I thought about the earwax-flavoured jellybeans from Harry Potter! And there was the reference, waiting for me just below the view from my screen ๐Ÿ™‚ Great minds.
I’m into citrussy flavours at the moment, though I try not to eat many sugary sweets right now, so haven’t actually eaten a jellybean since last year. I think i also used to enjoy the watermelon flavoured ones? (If they exist?)

    1. I blame my hormones but I have been craving sugar lately – unfortunately biscuits are the current fave.
We got a box of Jelly Bellys for Christmas and we still have half a box left lol
And yes, watermelon is a flavour – quite a nice one at that.

      1. Yum … I stood on the scales this morning and saw that I’d achieved a certain minor weight loss milestone, so while thinking about watermelon jellybeans made my mouth water, I’m pleased I’ve not had any in the house for a while. Still got a long way to go to lose all the weight I put on last year, but it’s nice to see a result!

          1. Yes, I deliberately stayed off them for a couple of months; got to focus on what’s important in the now, right? But I decided earlier this week (after I quit that group therapy which wasn’t working for me) that I would focus on my weight again. I must admit I’m feeling a bit proud, right now!
But yes, I’d certainly stay off the scales if I weren’t consciously working on my weight. Why beat yourself up unnecessarily?

  2. Oh, dear. I do love jelleybeans. I’ve eaten two bags of them in two months. My favorite are the cherry, but I love all of them. Green apple are wonderful, but hard to find around here.

  3. I haven’t had jelly beans in years. I do remember once going to my first husband’s family reunion. They had a contest to see who could come up with the correct number of a huge jar of jelly beans. I wrote down something like 2,356… and I won! I guessed the number right on the money! I don’t think I ever made it through the jar. ๐Ÿ˜›

  4. Here is a very interesting link you’ll be sure to enjoy about Jelly Belly candy. Our President Reagan’s favorite was the Blueberry flavor. He wrote them a letter to tell them how much he loved their candy and it served him well. Of course, they were propelled to super-candy status, it served them well too. That candy company went to extraordinary effort to ensure he was well cared for and never out of his favorite candies! I wasn’t aware that they made a caramel corn flavor…guess I’ll have to check some out again soon. I like their orange and citrus ones, myself.
