Journal Prompt #8

This morning I was stuck on what to write, so I went to my friend Mr Google and typed in “Give me a journal topic”. I picked the second site on the list and opened it and then closed my eyes and pointed at the screen to find my topic for today.
Drum roll please………
Write about a difficult decision you have had to make
And the first thing that jumped into my head is the decision I made this time last week.
This time last week I was not in a great place. I had reached the end of my rope and decisions had to be made. I spoke with the Garden Gnome and he said he would support me whatever I decided.
I stewed on the decision for a couple of days and then realised that I had to act.
The universe was hitting me over the head with all manner of signs including repeating quotes, lines from books and stories from others.
I decided to act.
So I resigned from my job.
It was one of the most difficult things I have done yet at the same time the most liberating. The weight lifted from my shoulders is palpable.
The Garden Gnome still does not have a job despite his best efforts and now I have quit my job (a few months shy of being able to claim a portion of my long service leave). The future is uncertain.
I am scared.
I know we will not starve as we still have all of the GG’s paid out long service leave from when he left his job.
However, we will not be moving forward financially – we will be moving backward.
I have given the universe two months after I finish my last day of work at the end of this month to show me the way out and what I am supposed to be doing.
In the meantime I am planning on catching up on my study and reading and writing lots. I will put my feelers out and submit articles and work to other places in order to build up my writing portfolio. And I will pull out all stops on my book.
So there you have it.
A difficult decision but one that is the best thing I could do for my mental health and wellbeing.
I am just trusting that it is the best decision to make for the family also.
006-copy1To quote Jim Morrison “There are things known and things unknown and in between are the doors”. I like this quote on two levels – the deeper one and the more obvious fact that he was the lead singer of The Doors ๐Ÿ˜€
So I will keep knocking on doors and see what’s on the other side.

  1. I think you will be in a better place once you have left your job, and will be better able to figure out the future with clarity. I know what that feeling is like of having the weight lifted- it is so liberating! Scary, but liberating! I do believe things will fall into place.and present themselves and the right direction. I love the Doors by the way! (but you probably knew that already) ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Well I certainly hope it does. The GG doesn’t want to talk about it and is trying to get expensive things sorted now while I still have a job.
And the Doors sing ‘our’ song. lol

  3. That is a big step you took. It’s good to think of your needs and well being though. Your happiness and lessened stress will show in your family and in your home. Good for you, and I’m excited to know that you’ll be working more on your book too.

    1. I’m half excited and half scared.
The news was broken at work yesterday as my position has now been advertised. Many people have told me I am brave but that they admire me for doing it.
I don’t feel brave or admirable but I do feel relieved.

  5. Remember that saying by Guillaume Apollinaire: “Come to the edge, he said. They said: We are afraid. Come to the edge he said. They came. He pushed. They flew”….. Happy flying, Darl!

  6. I get most of my prompts from WordPress and Writing.Com. It’s never dawned on my to let the search engine help. Why? I keep on making things harder than they have to be.

  7. I’m a firm believer in our inner voice (which in my case is a lot of God in there). You are listening to yourself closely and following what you know you need to do. Stay on that path and follow your heart. You have the faith it takes to go where you need to go. It is a brave thing to do and I applaud you. ALL my best wishes and prayers!

  8. I agree with Laura. You are listening to your inner voice and trusting the universe to unfold in the right way. Enjoy working on your book. You’ll probably find it still hard to find time to do write! It’s not as easy as people think even when you don’t have a day job. Or maybe it’s just me!

Sending you hugs and lots of positive visualization. And I’m excited for you!!

    1. Thank you Nia. I am looking forward to the days although I tend to spend the first couple of weeks simplifying my life. Once I am in a clear headspace, let the writing begin.

  9. Still not getting my emails alerts of your posts.

Lots of โค for you and the family from the Great White North. Things will find a way of working out. Even at a humble income level, you're much better off. You can't put a price on happiness and emotional well being. Often, money is worth what it costs you.

  10. I am so excited for you! I know how hard it is to make a decision that makes you feel vulnerable, but it also stimulates your brain to create new solutions. Solutions which will bring more happiness and fullness to your life. The Universe will answer, you’ll see. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ha! How does that sound coming from me? ๐Ÿ™‚ Seriously, though, it is one belief I always carry with me no matter how down I am. Sometimes it is a little harder to pull out, but eventually I do.

I’ll bet you find some beautiful doors on your journey.
