In 2009 I was given the opportunity to support a client and take them to the V8 Superboats in northern New South Wales. Having never been before, I was a bit excited and I must admit that it was not what I expected.
Having a Garden Gnome that lives and breathes V8 Supercars I wondered what the boats would be like.
I discovered that like the cars, they were extremely noisy but incredibly fun to watch.
I had a blast sitting down at the fence with my new DSLR (have I really had my camera for almost 5 years now?) on sports mode and clicking away.
I actually ‘jagged’ a good shot that won a prize in the local show later that year. lol
I found it interesting that when a boat came to grief, it was quite difficult for the marshalls to get to them dependent upon where on the course they ended up.
So for the rev-heads out there, I hope you enjoy. 🙂
Yess!! I’d love to see this racing! Seen it on TV before – you are so lucky to see them. Such wild racing with the incredible tight turns and occasional rolls out of the water. All jet boats too. 🙂

It’s definitely a lot of fun to watch for sure. I’ve been wanting to go back for a couple of years but haven’t made it there yet.

They’re at Terranora a couple of times each year. I’ve been wanting to go back but haven’t got there yet.

When I started reading this post, I thought you were going to tell about the time you drove (is that the right terminology?) one of these Superboats. But even though you “just” watched and took some great pictures, it sounds like it was a lot of fun.

Ha ha! If I drove one of those things, that would be me in the first picture – beached high and dry! 😉
Thanks for the compliment Doob.

Thanks so much. I was very much a novice with my camera then. I want to go back again now that I know my camera a little better.

I have been thinking of asking if I can go along with them one day but she isn’t really a close friend.

Amazing how shallow the water can be that they travel in. Nothing in Canada like this that I know of!

The water is incredibly shallow (as seen by the men wading in it). I believe the boats are very light but incredibly fast.

Not too sure I would like to watch water craft race? But you took some great shots!

Thanks April. I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy it either but it was a real adrenaline rush watching.

Great experience Sue and professional pics, could see how you won a prize for one of your pics.
Never been to a superboats meeting, it looks exciting and moreso if you are up close I think.
Cheers

I wouldn’t say that they are professional Ian but I appreciate your compliment nonetheless.

Great photos and it looks like a fun thing to watch. Most of the boats on the river here are sailing boats and I sometimes sit and watch them.

I think sailing boats are lovely to watch as well. There is always something wonderful about boats.
