Just the other afternoon I said to someone “How can I write about happiness when I am struggling to maintain it”?
I guess it was a rhetorical question. In any case, my friend didn’t answer me. It’s a bit of a tricky one to answer after all.
What I am learning is that happiness is something that evolves and it certainly isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ type of achievement.
I’m also learning little lessons that I am writing in my book.
Maybe that is the reason for my struggle.
At least I have Disney on my side during my journey.
The most recent song to be sung (in my head only because if I sang it out too loud too often I’m sure I’d be strung up by my toes) is the chorus to this one
I’ve read the lyrics to this song and whilst some of the words, such as
Let it go, let it go
And I’ll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go, let it go
may be applicable to me, most of them aren’t. I do find myself singing very often “Let it go, let it go.” (I kid you not. I’ve lost count of the times over the past weeks where I have stopped the thoughts running through my head and started singing this). I may have even run the risk of singing it to a colleague. Thankfully, I got out of that encounter in one piece.
So what other Disney songs can be applied to my life right now?
Let’s see…..
What about this one?
Hi ho, hi ho it’s off to work we go…..
There are so many gems in the Disney stable but one that I need to keep reminding myself of is the following:
I think old Bahloo (which incidentally was the name of my son’s Cub Scout Leader) has it right when he says:
Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
Old Mother Nature’s recipes
That brings the bare necessities of life
This has meant more than just being grateful for the little things in recent weeks. I have once again taken control of my diet in an effort to settle some of my issues and I’m finding that Mother Nature’s recipes are doing me the world of good.
I have found that it is when we strip back much the accoutrements of our lives that we find the real us and in the process we find our heart, our soul and our purpose. When we find those we find happiness also.
Lastly, my journey is leading me toward the following (very) old Disney song.
It put a smile on my face when I was listening to it just before.
I hope it does the same for you.
I like many songs Disney and fun ones of the past. I sing to my grandkids, “Que Sera Sera” (Doris Day) and unknown singer, “You are my Sunshine.” They like, “Let It Go” and Pharrell Williams, “Happy.” Fun post and I like singing to myself when work gets me down. “Skipping down the cobblestones. . . . Feeling Groovy.” 🙂

They are all great songs and I’ve sung them myself on many occasions.

Great post. I hadn’t heard a couple of those. I heard about the lines Let it go, let it go. I heard a teacher say the kids all were spontaneously singing that chorus in school after the movie came out. Seems like a very good thing.
Love this: I have found that it is when we strip back much the accoutrements of our lives that we find the real us and in the process we find our heart, our soul and our purpose.

Love your choice of songs!! They are all great to remember…and to sing over and over out loud or just internally.

You know I actually think that people who have struggled or are struggling with this whole happiness thing are more able to help others because they have been through it. They know the difficulties. There is no magic cure. I think it really isn’t some point that you actually reach and all your struggles are over. It’s something that is continually being worked on as life challenges us. Your book will evolve as you also evolve. The process of writing will give you more to reflect on. We are all works in progress, hey. And we are never really “finished”. Letting go is so hard, isn’t it? It can be scary. I struggle with that a lot!! Thank you for another beautiful, honest post and songs to help. 🙂

Everyone I know hates the song “Let it Go”. They are all sick of hearing their kids sing it. I, on the other hand, love it. I am a fan of a lot of Disney songs!

Love it when songs go through our heads. It has probably been decades since I heard Zip-a-dee-do-dah, and it is so amazing how it all comes back. Now it is going through my head….”Mr. bluebird on my shoulder”…haha.
Thanks Suzanna for the smiles. Have a great day! 🙂
