About

My name is Suzanne, Suz, Sue, Suzy Q or Peggy Sue depending on who is addressing me. I am a woman who is on the cusp of celebrating her 50th year and have 2 adult children and one teen. I share my home with the man of my dreams (a.k.a. The Garden Gnome), the Teen, HRH Princess Smudge (the cat) and Mr Magoo (the goldfish). We also share our garden with wildlife and birds.

This is my personal blog. It is focused on looking for the beauty and blessings in life and moving forward from the dark places that sometimes consume us. We all go through dark patches in our lives. For some, it becomes serious and medication may be required. For others, it is just a ‘speed bump’ on the road of life. In my life I have suffered grief, loss, despair, abuse and an abundance of love.

Just over 10 years ago, I received an official diagnosis of depression. I had probably suffered with depression on and off for many years prior to this but had never taken the step to go and talk to a professional hence no diagnosis prior to this. Depression is a funny thing. I know it can be beaten (and I have done it on a number of occasions) but it’s like an unwelcome house guest that just keeps turning up on your doorstep. The best thing about this though, is that over the years I have learned how to make its stay shorter and shorter. Part of my learning process has been to write. I’ve always kept journals and written in some way. It has aided me in so many ways. Right now, I am writing a book. My original intent was for it to be about depression but it keeps evolving.ย  I don’t know if I have finally settled on a topic for the book but a book I will write! As Captain Jean Luc Picard of Star Trek fame would say “Make it so”.

Through this page, I hope to share hope and encouragement that may help others in their journey through this thing called life. On occasion I may post things that don’t fit neatly into the category of moving forward and looking for the blessings but hey, life isn’t all cut and dried right?

My goal with this blog is to create content that is relevant to those who read my posts. Maybe I can offer insights that will help. My wish is to reach out and assist those who need it.

      1. Well deserved, Suzy. There is no obligation to pass it on directly – I am behind with many of them too, but this one was all new and shiny and I couldn’t resist ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Your About page is heart warming. I’m so glad I was directed to your blog on Linda’s One Liner Wednesday post this week. BTW, congratulations on winning her contest .( and for all the awards I see you’ve been given.) I suffer from depression also, and it’s been a long journey for me, too. However, it comes fewer and fewer times now and goes away more quickly. I’ll have to look at some of your posts about it. I agree, though, that I would not be who I am now if not for the strength and lessons I’ve learned through my bouts. The best book I read that helped me is an old book (I’m sure the author is deceased now) titled Hope and Help For Your Nerves by Dr. Claire Weekes. It was the first book I read that addressed the physical sensations of depression and anxiety and the fear of it returning. I keep a stock of that book to give to people who need it. It’s still n print, so I guess it helped many people. Thanks for you blog!

    1. Thanks so much for following my blog. I don’t always post about depression. Right now I am posting about grief. And I share a lot of my photography as well.
I do hope you enjoy my posts.
Thanks for the recommendation on the book. I will have to check it out. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Hi! I found your blog while looking for a quote to help with my recent miscarriage grief. I see all of my angle babies as butterflies and the quote you have touches my heart in that perfect way. I was wondering where you found it and if you have ever found a print of it?
Thank you so much for your blog….it’s refreshing to hear others express their miscarriage grief.

    1. Hi Karyn,
I’m so sorry for your loss. It really is hard to deal with sometimes. I’m glad you found my blog. I’m a little confused which quote it is that you are looking for. I have a butterfly quote on this blog post https://suzjones.wordpress.com/2014/01/24/butterflies-and-umbilical-cords/. If that is the one that you are talking about, I created the quote/wordart and I am more than happy for you to copy it.
Take care and be kind to yourself. xx
