Life isn’t all Sunshine and Rainbows

As much as I’d like to say that life is filled with sunshine and rainbows, I can’t in all honesty look you in the eye and lie.
Life sucks sometimes.
Yes, the sunshine and rainbows are there. They are always there. However in the midst of our search to find them, we have to part the rain and storm clouds to get there.
Some wonderful politician in an attempt to relate to the general public, once pontificated that “Life wasn’t meant to be easy”.
Well if that’s not truth from a pollie, I don’t know what is. Continue reading

Through my Lens – Life

Life has a habit of catching us off-guard when we least expect it. How we react to circumstances can also sometimes catch us off-guard.
And that is how my week began last Monday.
Suffice to say, the issues that arose were not with me. However I have not escaped unscathed as I have fought all week with the black dog as a result.
However, I am a fighter and I am strong. The dog will not drag me along after him whilst I hang gamely onto its leash in my attempts to reign him in. Continue reading

Farewell 2014

The end of a year tends to bring thoughts of self-reflection of the past months to most people. No doubt the tv will be filled tonight with compilations of news stories from the past year. Some of that will be pleasant to review however most of it will not.
The world’s media tends to only focus on what is bad in the world these days and unfortunately there has been too much darkness over the past twelve months.

But what about me?
What has my year held? Continue reading

Giving Thanks

This morning I came across a post at a fairly new blog (to me) that challenged the readers to write about gratitude.
The first thing that came to mind when I read this was a song that I used to sing in my church-going days. It was written by Don Moen and entitled “Give Thanks”.
Although I don’t attend church these days, my love of the music that I enjoyed during my time in attendance has not diminished.
I appreciate songs for their beauty and their messages and many lines in this song still resonate as loudly with me today as they did back then. Continue reading

Rise above the Storm

The other afternoon, the Tween (nearly Teen now) and I were outside photographing two storm fronts that were coming over.
We won’t discuss the fact that stress is causing me to have brain farts such as forgetting how to set my camera to bulb function that meant I didn’t get too many lightning shots. 😦
Anyway, after a lightning bolt landed in a paddock not too far away and my assistant screamed “We’re going to die” we high-tailed it back inside to the relative safety of the indoors to wait out the storm. Continue reading

The importance of just being there

I have always been of the belief that when words fail (and in some circumstances not even words can help) then just being there is enough.
Unfortunately it took the events of the past two weeks to reinforce this belief but I am glad that it did.
So many people have difficulty in expressing what they feel.
They believe that they just don’t have the words or the situation makes them feel uncomfortable so they just pull back and don’t communicate at all. Continue reading

Touched by an Angel

There are things that happen in life sometimes that leave people scratching their heads. Some would say that it is coincidence.
Some praise God for having a hand in unfolding events.
Whatever the conclusion reached there are sometimes events that occur that defy explanation and leave you feeling as if you were somehow a part of a great plan written by someone else.
Such was the case with the life of tiny Suzanne Joy. Continue reading
