The end of a year tends to bring thoughts of self-reflection of the past months to most people. No doubt the tv will be filled tonight with compilations of news stories from the past year. Some of that will be pleasant to review however most of it will not.
The world’s media tends to only focus on what is bad in the world these days and unfortunately there has been too much darkness over the past twelve months.
But what about me?
What has my year held? Continue reading
Right now, I am buzzing.
After my post about drifting the other day, I have managed to have a couple of very productive days. But first and foremost,
I FINISHED THE QUILT!!!!
Yes. I did. I felt so fan-blinkin’-tastic about it as well that I immediately took photos and posted them to FB. Since then, I have chatted with a couple of friends and comments have ranged from “Beautiful” to “About bloody time too”. lol
In my defense, it only took 5 months. I could have been a lot longer if I’d wanted. Continue reading
Today is officially the last day of school for two weeks. The Tween is all dressed up in blue and off to the second day of her school sports carnival. She is not a competitor but tells me that she ‘coaches’ her friend who is. 🙂
She was telling me this morning that the school has awards for costumes. Yesterday it was for homemade costumes and today the awards are for those that are store bought. She was disappointed that the young fellow who made a blue Tardis didn’t place yesterday but agreed that the three young men who made red Transformers costumes (that actually transformed into a car) were pretty cool. She was also pretty impressed with the Barbies in their boxes that placed. I look forward to hearing what costumes there were at the carnival today. Continue reading
It has taken me a week to pull just about everything out of this room and to clean, sort and declutter.
But I have finished.
The wonderful Garden Gnome put up shelves above my desk so that I could have a clear workspace for study and creating and he also put together a flat pack cupboard to get my fabric out of containers that were all over the place and into some semblence of order.
I have folded and sorted every fabric by colour.
All of my lace doilies for use in crafting now have their own container and ribbons, laces and trims now have their own boxes. Continue reading
Let’s see. What am I working on in my life right now?
I am working on maintaining my calm.
I confess that the past couple of days, I have snapped more than necessary and the poor GG has copped my raised voice. In my defense, he wasn’t entirely innocent however I should not have snapped. I don’t usually snap at people but sometimes I do. And I don’t like it.
I am working on getting through the week.
There is nothing worse than knowing that you have four days left to work and a whole bucketload of stuff to be done before your final minutes and not wanting to be there at all. Continue reading
I did it!I survived another week 😀 That’s got to be a good thing right?
So in honour of my amazing survival skills, I plan on rewarding myself this weekend. Well not really, but it sounded good.
So to wrap up my week…. here goes.
This week I have learned:
I know. For those of you reading this in Australia, it is already Monday however I am scheduling this on Sunday afternoon so it has to count for something right?
What a wonderful weekend it has been.
I tried my level best to stay away from the computer as much as possible last weekend. My head and neck/back are still playing up and I find that by the end of the day I am extremely weary. I come home from work and nap and then I try to catch up on blog posts. I have an appointment booked with an ENT specialist three weeks from now. I’m getting used to the crickets/cicadas in my head. They have almost become white noise now. 😉
I have to laugh. I was sharing with a colleague (who is also a friend) yesterday about the symptoms that I have and she pointed out to me the beauty involved with constant ringing in my ears. When I told her that I have cicadas constantly singing in my head she said “You can close your eyes and imagine you are camping”! 😀 I laughed so hard at that. Yes, most definitely there is a silver lining to it all.
So what did I get up to last weekend?
I decided that I want to make a start on the Project Life way of scrapping and decided to get the first six months of photos from last year printed off (only the good ones). Since I was going to be doing that, I also had wedding photos from my oldest children’s weddings printed and a couple of other photos printed to be framed and put on top of the piano in the ‘family’ corner. I then purchased some frames (25% off thank you very much) for the larger photos to go on the wall. We purchased all of the Tween’s school books as well. Then I went to Spotlight to look for the Project Life stuff. I decided to go with just the album and inserts (thanks for the advice Giovanna). To get to the scrapbooking section, I had to pass through the fabric. The Tween and I began planning her quilt. We purchased some fat quarters as a start. The GG just groaned. 😉
Later at home, I sat and worked out what I will need to make the Tween’s quilt (besides lots of time and patience). The Garden Gnome then asked what had ever happened with the fabric I bought for him to make his bar runner. 😳 So I found a pattern and modified it and made this for him.
I have to buy another Holden patch for the other end and it will be complete. The GG has already installed it upon the bar 🙂
Underneath it you can see the quilt I have been working on. I have stitched the rows together now (that’s them laying under the bar runner on our sofa). The next step is to cut the ‘tracks’ and sew them on. This time I will try to get them to match up better than my last quilt did! 😉
I have made a start on catching up on my reading also. I’ve almost finished reading the magazines laying on the floor beside my bed and then I will use them in putting my vision board together…… excuse my little segue here but speaking of my vision board…. Yesterday I came home from work and the GG handed me an envelope and said “Information on our new home came in the mail today” and handed me a brochure about the current Mater Prize Home Lottery. Burleigh is our most favourite place to stay and this has everything we could wish for. Since we are VIP ticket buyers, we already have tickets… now I’m going to claim it!!
So where was I? Oh yes, my reading.
I am halfway through one of the e-books I bought last week. I still have another to go. And a manuscript I am halfway through reading also 😉 . And to show you just how much reading I still have to do….
And the bag filled with Wayne Dyer books I bought in Melbourne are just outside the edge of the photo. There’s just a few there to read 😀 Wish me luck!!! It’s just as well I have the following week off work. We were hoping to get away (Burleigh looks inviting) but it is the end of the school holidays and they are booked solid. To get a place there is worth almost a week’s wages right now. 😦 I think a day trip might be in order. If we do, I’ll take photos and share 🙂
Have a blessed day 🙂
