Vision Boards

I’m sharing with you all something that nobody (apart from those I share my home with) have seen. It is my vision board. I created this board at the beginning of the year with pictures and words that became my vision for this year. The board sits beside my bed (propped up by the pile of books waiting to be read). Although I don’t look at it every day, I certainly look at it on a regular basis.

What is a vision board? A vision board is a visual reminder of the goals that you have set for yourself for the coming year. It helps to clarify our daily affirmations as we step toward our goals. It can break our goals down into mini and achievable steps. A vision board can give you clarity and provide focus. If you ask Mr Google, he will give you lots of answers about vision boards. I like this site http://www.makeavisionboard.com/what-is-a-vision-board.html . I’m sure you are all asking whether a vision board helps? My answer is yes. It has helped keep me on track in many areas and reminded me of other goals I had set myself and forgotten in the hubbub of everyday life.

Let’s look at what I hoped to achieve in the past year:

* Feeling healthy and eating well – I have done this on and off. Right now I am off but will get back on track as soon as the Christmas season is over. When I eat well, I feel so much better for it.

* A family holiday – We spend a week or so in Far North Queensland with friends. That was awesome. We also spent a few days in Melbourne with my middle child and his wife.

* Gardening together – nope that didn’t happen. There is a reason I have a Garden Gnome. He knows what I like πŸ˜‰

* Work goals – These included more money (I was put on full time), recognition, trust and acceptance. These have all happened.

* Craft and sewing – Not as much artwork this year but I bought a new sewing machine and have spent countless hours enjoying that. Learning to quilt has been so much fun. Making soft toys for the grandchildren, the Tween and her friends was also a lot of fun.

* Giving – With so much going on with local disasters, world wide disasters and every day happenings I believe that I have achieved this goal. The GG actually said to me one day “Slow down or we’re going to be so broke we are the ones who will need help”.

* Photography – I still take photos. I am happy with them. I use them in my blogging and to create inspirational quotes to share with you all.

* Whale watching – still hasn’t happened. I am scared of deep water and sharks but I figure the sharks aren’t out with the whales so all is good πŸ™‚ It’s like having great hair – it may not happen overnight, but it will happen. πŸ™‚

* New/old outdoor setting – I have two of my great grandmother’s old chairs so far and plans to get the rest of the set from my mum at some point however I haven’t made the time to strip the chairs back and paint them. I’ll carry this one over to my new vision board.

* New things for the house – I still haven’t re-done my bedroom however I did buy a pretty lavender arrangement to sit on my entry way table and we have purchased bits and pieces for the house through the year.

* Love and relationship – I would definitely say that the GG and I have become so muchΒ  closer this year through our shared struggles. He is an amazing man and I wish there were more like him in the world for all those women out there who really need a good man.

* Continuing meditation – this one is ongoing. I enjoy my daily meditations. πŸ™‚

All in all, I’ve had a pretty good year. I am beginning to set goals for my new vision board I will put together in the New Year. When I first tried this idea, I wasn’t sure it would work for me, but I’ve found that it is a great tool for maintaining focus and clarity. Setting goals is great for moving forward. The goals that you set don’t have to be big things. I mean, look at mine. Some of my goals were about purchasing items for our home. The thing to remember is that goals create a sense of purpose in our lives and give us something to aim for.

What do you all think? Will you try a vision board?

  1. Your vision board seemed to work great for you. I will check out your link and start one up too. Thanks for the amazing idea. I will need to hang mine, where I look often, maybe in my taller.

    1. I did it at first because I thought “Why not” but I’ve found over the past year that I have kept coming back to it and remembering what I want to achieve and using affirmations.

      1. I have this one tiny or maybe it’s HUGE problem—-it’s called procrastination. However, I like your explanation much better—maybe I wasn’t ready for it. I will try again. πŸ™‚

  4. It sounds very intriguing, especially if you are a very visual person. There is something about seeing your goals in vivid color every day (the first thing you wake up in the morning and the last thing before you close your eyes for the evening). Some people like lists, I tend to side with an image like yourself. And isn’t it awesome if at the end of the year our vision board becomes our memory board? πŸ˜‰ Thanks for sharing!
